Miami, Florida

This car had a lot of custom work on it but wasn't overdone. It appeared on the cover of Custom Craft car magazine as depicted. Gil now lives up the coast in Sebastian, Florida.

I met Gil at the Pizza Palace on SW 8th.St around 1959 or '60. He was driving his beautiful '55 T-Bird. We also were in the Road Rebels car club together. Gil and I have kept in touch over the years and I have been to his house in Sebastian. We have even played a round of golf or two. He was playing golf, I have no idea what I was playing. I got to meet his brother Eddie last January in Sebring. A lot of great memories.

Remember when "Car Craft" "Honk", "Rod & Custom" - & a host of others were all these neat little books? They fit inside a school book perfectly in class, so as to try to fool the teacher into thinking you were reading the assignment...

1953 was Mercury's 15th Anniversary, (1939 being Merc's 1st year of production). This one is sportin' a 1954 Chevrolet grille, & Lakes Pipes! Looks like the chrome surround on the hood was removed, to make the "scoop" functional. 1953 was the end of the V-8 Flathead. for FoMoCo, as they went to overhead valve cylinder heads, on all their 1954 models

I met Gilbert & his brother, Eddie, in 1956 when we all worked at the Pizza Palace on S.W. 8th St. delivering pizzas on Vespa motor scooters. Now that was a fun job for a 16 year old.

Gilbert and his brother and two sisters used to live a few houses up from us in Bogota, Colombia. The family moved to Miami a few years after we did. I knew that he retired a while back but have lost touch with him. Anyone have his e-mail or phone number?/

I've known Gilbert since 1956 but don't remember this car.
Must have been when I was in the Navy, 1959 - 1961
