On D Day, elements of the 2nd Ranger Battalion had to scale this cliff while under heavy fire.
Their mission was to eliminate German guns capable of reaching both Omaha and Utah Beaches, as well as Navy Ships offshore.
They succeeded in their mision, despite enemy troops firing on them, cutting their ropes, and tossing grenades down onto them.
