The lake is about an hour's drive from Bangui. According to legend, the lake was originally a village. When a young man died, following the circumcision ceremony, his grandmother, a powerful sorceress, cursed the village and it was swallowed up by the earth, leaving only a lake.

Today the lake is home to Jean-Jacques and Jean-Pierre, two large and well fed crocs. As you drive in, you are mobbed by kids selling chickens. Once you reach the lake, the two Jeans come when called for their lunch.
