Pinnacles National Monument, Near Hollister, CA

This was taken about 15 minutes after sunset at 8:45 PM.
Bear Gulch reservoir

Hiking back in the dark on a moonless night through two (bat) caves was quite an adventure. My iPhone flashlight app came in very handy.

The pinnacles is actualy the weathered remains of 1/2 of an ancient volcano that sits atop the San Andreas fault. The other half is apparently down near present-day Lancaster, California 195 miles southwest. It took 23 million years to move that far at 0.59" a year.
