Eisenstadt

Day 7 - I took the train for 5 hours going back to Vienna. The train was packed. I would imagine it's the busiest rail route in Austria as it passes through Salzburg, Innsbruck to the border. Besides, the vacation season for the Europeans had begun. The returning ride seemed much longer than the one going, since I had nobody to talk to, and I could never read on a moving train.

Like from Melk, the connection from Innsbruck to Vienna stops at the West Station. I took the U-Bahn back to my hotel which is across from the Mid Station. The receptionist was happy to greet me, "Ah, you made it !!" After I checked in the room, I just stayed there for a few minutes, to wash up before dashing out again. I had to rush, this time to the South Station, to catch a train to Eisenstadt, a town the concierge had recommended before I left for Innsbruck.

The train station at Eisenstadt was under construction on weekends, so I had to get off at another town to take a bus from there, provided by the train company. The bus stopped at a spot further from the city centre, and it was quite some walk under the sun on a hot day.

The Austrians are incredibly nice. I met some very kind-hearted local inhabitants who gave me direction to the old town. One older lady patted me on the shoulder to give me encouragement. and another lady asked me if I'd like an apple, pointing to her plastic supermarket bag.

There's a castle in the old town, and there would be a classical concert there that evening (Handel's music, if I remember right). When I passed by a shop selling CDs and DVDs, there was a big poster of Michael Jackson. Old town or new cities, the whole world remembers him.

I did not stay too long in this cozy town because I had to allow some time to walk back to the bus stop. Really, I lost my way and walked an extra mile.
