Based on this photo, I decided to change my Canon for a Nikon. Now, it remains to be seen if I can acheive such beautiful results. A spectacular photo! I feel as though if I touched, my fingers would get wet!

Dave, I read your review at SLR Gear. Thank you for taking the time to write so thoughtfully. It was really very helpful. I'm considering the 200-400mm now but wonder if I'll be able to pack it to shoot birds in the field. Just recently, I realized I'm not getting any younger -- end of denial I guess. I recently rented an 80-400mm to test hoping that it would talk me out of the much more expensive 200-400. I'm wondering if you have any experience with the less expensive 80-400 and would care to comment or contrast the two?
Thank you. Your swan is wonderful.

I am considering purchasing this lens. I read your comments with great interest. I always value experience more than technical or marketing data from a corporation. I have heard a consistent drum beat of the build quality and the quality of the iimages created with this lens. Your image of this swan, and it is a perfect image - technically and artistically, has me reaching for my checkbox and heading out the door.

I have three other Nikkor zooms for my D2x: 12-24mm f/4 (good, bordering on great), 28-70mm f/2.8 (great lens) and the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR (stupendous). However, I need reach for nature and birds and my 300mm f/4 a good lens that will be relegated to the bag after I purchase this lens.

You are the best salesman Nikon could have hired, you are the reason I am about to spend $5,000 on this lens. Thanks again.

That is a Good Picture ;). Looks like the Lens is really worth the fortune it costs.

what can I say ??

From the gorgeously lit and well exposed feathers, to the blistering sharpness and overall tones, this is just perfection. I also really like the water rolls up front the swan's chest.

A marvellous capture
