John William Boyett Sr.

On Monday last the tree of life was shaken and the life of one of Winn Parish's oldest and most useful citizens was demanded by the grim reaper who will not be denied.
When the end came this "father in Israel," full of years marked by good deeds, was surrounded by sorrowing relatives and friends.
He was 67 years old, a native of Alabama. Having come to Louisiana when 6 years of age, he was a resident here for 61 years, all of which had been spent in Ward two in Winn Parish and for more than thirty years he had occupied the home in which he died.
He served his people with distinction as a member of the police jury for many years during the early days of the parish organization.
When war broke out between the states he was one of the first in his community to volunteer to serve his state and become a member of the Twenty-eight Regiment, Louisiana volunteers and served through until the surrender.
He was a father of 13 children, 9 of whom survive him John Wesley, one of his sons, is a prominent merchant and also an alderman in our town. William Jasper another son is a prominent farmer in ward 7. Horace L. Boyett, another son is in business with his brother. Two other sons James A. Boyett and Robert E. Boyett. Four daughters Emma, Martha, Minerva, & Rhoda.
He is also survived by his wife the former Cynthia James.
He leaves a long list of friends to mourn his loss. He has gone to reap the rewards of a well spent life. His body was laid to rest in the family burial ground (The James Cemetery) at Royal, this Parish Wednesday.
The writer tenders his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family in their hour of sorrow.

JOHN WILLIAM BOYETT was born December 11, 1843 in Alabama, and died November 15, 1910 in Winn Parrish, La {James Cemetery in Winn Parrish}. He married CYNTHIA MATILDA JAMES December 11, 1865 in Winn Parish, LA. She was born September 20, 1850 in Lawrence, MS, and died May 02, 1923 in Winn Parish, LA Buried {James Cemetery in Winn Parrish}.
