Le Monastère de Rumtek est le siège du "Karmapa", le chef spirituel d’un courant du bouddhisme tibétain en exil en Inde après l’invasion du Tibet par les Chinois. Il parfois appelé le lama à la coiffe noire.
C'est le plus grand monastère de l'Himalaya oriental et son architecture est d’origine tibétaine. Il fut construit au seizième siècle et reconstruit en 1966.
L’entrée du monastère est interdite aux chinois de Chine Populaire en raison du conflit sino-tibétain.
The Rumtek Monastery is the seat of the "Karmapa", the spiritual leader of a Tibetan Buddhist movement in exile in India after the Chinese invasion of Tibet. He sometimes called the llama with the black cap.
It is the largest monastery in the eastern Himalayas and its architecture is of Tibetan origin. It was built in the sixteenth century and rebuilt in 1966.
The entry of the monastery is prohibited to the Chinese of People’s Republic of China due to the Sino-Tibetan conflict.
