Hi Terry,
Your story doesn't sound crazy to me. Actually, it sounds rather interesting! I think the best thing is to keep doing what you're doing -- perhaps feeding honey or a mix of honey or sugar with a bit of water. -- bev

Bev, I can't believe I'm actually going to admit I've befriended a paperwasp! We have a log home, and often, in the winter, these (unwanted) guests appear, usually underfoot causing pain. One morning, during breakfast, one very thirsty, weak creature appeared on my windowsill. I gave him a drop of water, immediatly consummed by a little triangle head searching for more. Not knowing what they enjoy, I gave some honey, which was also enjoyed. This little guy has been around for a month (I know it is him, due to the fact that I put a drop of pink nail polish on his back side. I found your website, trying to find out what kind of critter I've befriended. I'd (weirdly enough) like to provide a nice home until spring. What do they like to eat? I want to take him up into the woods so he can live without dieing from pestisides. I do have a respect for all nature. My husband and I have been going green. As much organic, and natural material as possible.
I hope you don't think this as crazy, I've had much stranger encounters with nature, I've never been hurt or injured. I believe all creatures sence peace and comfort in those that harness love of nature and life.

I've seen these this year for the first time in my area. They are scary looking wasps. I can't figure out what they are after and what purpose they serve. Glad I'm not the only one with these creatures around.

Hi Guest -- It depends on the species. Have you tried doing a Google search using "problem wasps" ? I gave that a try and got a lot of websites. One of them might be of some help. If the wasps are yellowjackets, I think you can use those wasp traps baited with sugar water. If they are paper wasps traps probably won't work. I suspect you'd have to use a wasp spray to kill them. Anyhow, just do a Google search as suggested and you may find some answers.

can anyone tell me how to get these wasps away from my pool so we can enjoy swimming?
