January 5 2005:
Local Heroes

I’ve been out with my camera after midnight again, but this time I took my tripod to capture this memorial in our village. Because of the low light I had to focus it manually, but that was really guesswork as I was forced to have the camera quite near to the ground – not the best viewing position.

I was getting a bit self-conscious about lingering around graveyards at 12.30 in the morning, but fortunately nobody seem to see me…

I like this shot a lot Ray. Nice idea to shoot it late at night.

These community monuments to the dead of WWI stunned me the first time I saw them. More than anything else they drove home to me the impact of the "Great War" on English youth. An entire generation was decimated.
Thanks for posting this Ray. Very effective angle and capture.

Last time I was out taking pics after midnight, I caught the attention of the police! They were ok once I showed them what I was doing though :) You've done well with this pic

Great shot; there's certainly nothing wrong with your graveyard, nighttime focusing skills. I assume the orange tint came from a nearby sulphur streetlamp?

I am not sure I would have the nerve to be in the graveyard after midnight!
