Back in the mid sixties, radio in the UK was regulated and only the BBC could legally broadcast. This was not good for the young generation as pop music was rationed to a few programmes a week. However, Radio Luxembourg could just about reach the London area but reception was poor - they played pop music using British 'disc jockeys' as we called them. Another drawback is that it only broadcast here in the evenings. But then, in addition, there were those illegal pirate radio stations broadcast from international waters and they were great!
