Elizabeth, descendant of Aaron, barren until old age
gave birth to John, called the Baptist.
At the birth neighbors and relatives
heard that the Lord had displayed
great mercy toward Elizabeth;
and they rejoiced with her.
Zachariah, the father declared,
"blessed be the LORD GOD for visiting us.
And you, child, will be called a prophet of
the Most High; for you will go on
