A Short Story by Elaine. This photo composition
was created using photos and tiny sculptures.
We had a lot of fun doing this.
THE SLEEPING ANGEL
It was a night of nights. Something in the air
portended an unprecedented event—similar
to the hush before an eclipse, a change in
atmosphere. Members of the Angelic Choir were
pruning their feathers as they practiced the high notes.
A little angel sat beneath a tree and sang along,
going even higher than the angelic sopranos.
They talked among themselves about a very
special birth that would occur that night
and be remembered till the end of time
May I go with you and sing too? the tiny one asked.
A kind, motherly angel answered. No, I’m afraid not,
little one. We may be up all night and you would
go to sleep. But the little angel was persistent.
I won’t go to sleep, I promise.
All right, You may come along. Perhaps your sweet
voice would add even more meaning to this night.
And so she left the little angel under the tree
singing happily. However it was not long before
she became very sleepy.
Animals in a nearby forest felt the strangeness in the air
and were drawn to a bright light in the sky. The mother sheep
had brought her lambs, and some cows and donkeys passed the
sleeping child. Even the wild animals emerged from the deeper part
of the forest. A lion family was among them. The mighty
father seemed not to see the little angel. The mother paused
and said Isn’t she sweet. We should let her sleep. But the
young lion went right up to her, licked her hand and she awakened.
The Herald Angel had already blown her horn and the chorus
was beginning when the little angel heard them and went
running up the very front row to blend her voice into
the harmonies that rang out from the heavens accompanying
that beautiful night when Jesus came to earth.
