Spider - Spinnerette

Pearland, Texas

This is another spider of the same species as the previous image, a golden silk orb-weaver; however, she was considerably smaller. I was able to capture an image in which you can see her spinerette - the orifice from which her silk comes from as she makes her web. It is partially hidden in the shadow, but you can identify it by the larger brown circular area with a cross-like (+) opening from which the silk comes. You can see it much better by clicking on "original" below this caption.
