Have you seen the other picture of the car I put in Pending? https://pbase.com/cichallenge/image/171751378

You had a ratty old Porsche? Do tell, please. I look forward to hearing how you think the Alfa compares after you drive one

While I admire the 4C, it isn't my dream car. We can have a long discussion about that subject.

San Bernardino is a long drive for me...about 55 miles and I was rolling that a way from Los Angeles at about 7:30am and saw your car...and it is beautiful but I got to hang with it for about 5 miles...in front of it, behind and aside it so I could study the vehicle...

Now I'm driving in my comfortable living room of a car, the size of which I still haven't gotten use to after almost 4 years of driving my damned Honda Accord...a big car, but I'm happy cruising at 75mph getting 40.2 MPG on this open highway, driving along, as I like to say, in my living room but I've got lots of forward looking glass...it is a good car, not like the BMW or the old ratty Porsche, but the Honda always starts, always gets me to where I am going and gets me there on time....

So I see your dream car...but damn it takes me back to the early 60's like Karma.matic time travel...and it is a wistful sad moment knowing that kind of car is no longer for fat me, all achy stiff boned me...

It was more than a little sad, it was very sad but I tell you now, maybe not today or tomorrow, but I will seek this car out (I have some old ties to vehicle sales companies), maybe even drive it...damned if I know.

But it sure had a strong reaction for me. I'll let you know how it goes.

Best Wishes, Traveller

Not sure I understand the San Bernardino reference. Yes, it's a tiny stunner. I'm not sure I'd call it a throwback sports car, though. To me, those are front engine/rear drive. The Alfa Romeo 4C is mid-engined and reminds me of the even more diminutive Lancia Stratos HF from the 1970s.

Unless driven irresponsibly, none of today's cars are unsafe by the measures of even ten years ago. Strong body structures, anti-lock brakes, stability control, airbags, etc. make walking away from all but the most extreme crashes the likely outcome.

I remember sitting in a 4C in May 2014. I knew quite a bit about it and was very excited. After a few seconds, however, I concluded I would be unlikely to enjoy having one. The Fiat Spider that I bought is a much better fit for me.

Here's to fun cars and the people who enjoy them.

Well now, this car! I was driving to San Bernardino of all places very early....and saw one of these on the road, same color...but it was and odd experience, and odd vehicle.

To me it was tiny and way reminded me of my old MG-A, or a slightly larger Austin Healey.

I mean this is...an old time throw back sports car...it looked like unsafe fun.

I guess this is one's view when one gets older?

Still, it was a strange experience because I liked it and yet instantly knew that I could never be able to drive one...the way I once could.

I invite others to take a look at this thing....it is, almost miniature...from a different time.

I should have said most challenging rather than worst. It makes climbing in and out of my FIAT Spider seem easier.

Note: I did not sit in the car pictured. It was locked and "do not touch" signs were placed in the windows.

The worst part of the ride is climbing in and out. The car is very low and has wide sills. Low-mileage insurance is available from some companies, and such cars are usually lower-risk than you'd imagine and they're usually one of several beasts in the owner's collection. Maybe a color other than red would draw less attention from the constabulary? Nah, they'd hear the loud, crackling exhaust. "But, officer, it's stock."

I'll have to subdue my car envy by telling myself that the cops would be all over this thing with speeding tickets, and that the insurance would be through the roof. It would be nice to have a ride in one, though.

Get a low-mileage coupe for less than half that.

Just my luck I was gonna buy one but after reading the review….. so much for that. Even then not sure I am in the right tax bracket for a 80K auto. Paul

The color is called "Rosso Villa d'Este" after a hotel on Italy's Lake Como that hosts an annual car show. Although it was said to be exclusive to this limited-edition car, I believe it will be offered on Alfa Romeo's Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV (most likely as a $2,000+ option. This car is a thing of wild beauty to be sure! And candy apple red...Traveller

It's an Alfa Romeo 4C Spider 33 Stradale Tributo. It was in the showroom of the dealer to which I took my Fiat Spider for servicing. All carbon fibre, with a mid-mounted 1.75l turbo engine. The car looks as wide as it is long from some perspectives. I've posted another image of it in Pending at https://pbase.com/image/171751378. Buon appetito.

If this isn't "hot" I don't know what is.
Great.

Sweet car, very very nice! Did you save the company some BIG $$$, get a huge bonus and looking to upgrade your ride? Even better, this is the bonus! Think I got this one figured out. ;-) Paul
