Paul, I live in what is known the "North Shore" area, across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. Many people who live here commute to New Orleans daily for work. Before I retired, I commuted about 20 miles east to Mississippi each work day. Some 20-30 years ago, the area where I now live was basically a swamp, until developers came along and began to convert it to a residential area. But, even now it is still not fully "developed." Where I live is not particularly big (though maybe a bit bigger than a standard "lot"), but it is surrounded on three sides with mostly undeveloped "green areas." There is a close neighbor on only one side. And only about a mile or so away are Bayou Liberty and Bayou Bonfouca. Many types of wildlife live in and around the bayous, including alligators. I’ve never see an alligator around our property, but have seen raccoons, possums, owls, snakes (even found a snake in the house once) and, of course, all kinds of less exotic wildlife. I have heard others living in this area claiming to have seen or heard wild pigs, coyotes, otters (one neighbor had otters in his pool) and other critters. There was even a rumor of a black bear in the area, but I never talked to anyone who actually saw it. Once, a few years ago I arrived home from work to find a bald eagle eating road kill in the middle of the road directly in front of my house. Unfortunately, by the time I ran in the house and got my camera and came back out, it was gone. There are also many different kinds of flowering plants in the backyard which attract all kinds of bugs and insects … and, of course, there are the mosquitoes and the “no see ums.” - Ken

I'm just amazed by what you are able to find in your own back yard. Seems like a good sized property, do you live in rural Louisianan or in the burbs? Paul

A bone is food for a dog - looks good to me.

Thanks, Georgia and Traveller. Appreciate the kind words. I'm not really sure this fits the challenge topic, but thought I'd give it a shot ... - Ken

Very creative composition, and don't we know how Lily is protecting her bone.
Simply wonderful!
