SwissWatch1

What a humbling lesson:
Had I known how difficult it is
to take such a seemingly simple macro shot
(avoiding e.g. unwanted reflections
or dust accumulating on your object),
I wouldn't even have tried to do so!

It's also true, though, that this lense's
macro-feature seems to be rather a gimmick
than an asset for everyday use ;-))

Here you go, Paul: exactly! Getting all the elements of the watch itself into focus while maintaining everything else blurred—for instance the strap's seams—was indeed one of the real *challenges* for me, at least with the other one of my two entries («SwissWatch2»). Nevertheless: while «photozone.de» write in their review of the lens I have used for this image that «the macro feature is pretty nice but avoid f/4 due to the substantial softness here...», I find that—after all my efforts to get it eventually more or less right—neither one of the two images entered shows any problem of this sort (or am I not discriminating enough as far as «softness» goes?). ~ db.

The real challenge I find with 1:1 to 1:4 macro photography is getting enough DOF. If you have the wrong elements out of focus it causes the image to loose intest. One can use focus stacking but that but comes with a new set of challenges which I have yet to defeat. Paul.

I like the minimalist motion blur on the second hand....great shot, very well executed. Traveller
