St Barnabas Monastery

Not far from Salamis is St Barnabas Monastery, erected by the Byzantine Emperor Zeno in 447 AD, near where the apostle's grave was discovered.
The monastery was destroyed in the 7th century in one of the devastating Arab raids on Cyprus, and all that remains of the Byzantine edifice are
the foundations. The present church and monastery were constructed in 1756 during the Ottoman rule. Today it houses a museum of icons.
