Hrafnseyri – birthplace of Iceland's hero Jón Sigurðsson, born 1811. His birthday, June 17th is Iceland's National day.
He was elected as MP for Ísafjörður county in 1844, and led the Icelanders in their resistance to Denmark's 1849 constitutional reform.
After years of struggle, the Danish government granted Iceland autonomy in internal affairs in 1874. He became President in 1849,
and is often referred to as “Iceland's Pride, Sword and Shield”. A museum opened here in 1980.
