22 K2 Apartments

Melbourne, Australia

The K2 apartments are a sustainable and social responsible housing project.
More then half of the 96 apartments are built for people with a disability.
The buildings are positioned on the east west axe to receive the maximum northern winter sun and use solar hot water.
They are built with non-toxic materials (for example, all pipe work is PVC free) and recycled and plantation timbers.
The buildings have a built-in grey water-recycling unit that is used for toilets and irrigation.

Forty years ago the Housing Commission copied the UK-style of social housing, you can see this in the picture below.

I love how these apartments have so many windows! I am sure that the inside is filled with natural light. I like that the top floor has lots of plants! If I had that much sunshine in my apartment, I would put out lots plants in the window sill.

Certainly they have removed the cold isolation of the old housing buildings of 50 yrs ago
