May 19, 2005 Heron and Friend

This used to be a nice little pond now it is more like a bog. When Jeanne visited
we stopped and discovered a mother duck making a trail through the muck for
about 12 little ducklings. Today I spotted the heron. It was a minute or two
before I figured out the lump at the end was a turtle.

This was taken from inside the car, as soon as I got out to shoot more photos the heron took off.
Its wingspan looked like it was at least five feet wide.

I remember those little ducks!! They were swimming thru MUCK!

Nice shot of the heron, and I can see the turtle, but he isn't looking so good LOL!!!

Next time, Cheryl, you will know to pack your Great Blue Heron costume and you will change into it before you exit your car. (I think you came up with a really fine photograph.)

Hard to expose with that deep shadow and blazing light....in Florida, the herons are so used to being gawked at that they aren't as skittish as the birds in "the nawth"...

The lighting/metering real does lend to bringing out the colour in the Heron's head.

Amazing bird and capture. I see the turtle. Don't see the bottle?

I wonder if herons can eat turtles??? Nice bird, pity about the bottle in the backgound, modern curse

The detail of his feathers is fantastic. They are such graceful & wonderful birds.
