Among all the rather complicated looking images I shot on this trip to Florence,
this one of the fireplug at the corner of the Strozzi palace caught my eye for its stark simplicity.
I do like contrasts !
Monumental stones dominate palazzo's ground floor, and huge iron rings, one mounted with the Strozzi family emblem of a falcon,
are used to secure horses while their riders might be dining or on some business errand with the Strozzi..
These heavy but functional architectural details contrasted strongly with the simplicity of the modern red fireplug..
The iron falcon mounted on the corner ring, is often seen on other Strozzi family emblems.
It is a play on the family name "Strozzi", with "strozzieri", meaning "falcon".
