This image shows three of the main sites in Florence that have literally given the city its fame.
I shot the picture from the windowed area joining the two main wings of the Uffizi Museum
The Uffizi is arguably one of the most important museums in the world, and the repository of some of the most important
works of Renaisance Art.
The construction crane and enclosed scaffolding are part of the ongoing restoration to the Uffizi, which during the 15th -16th C.
contained the offices of the Medici family.

Just beyond the right wing of the Uffizi there is a glimpse of the Palazzo Vecchio with its highly recognizable tower.
The Palazzo Vecchio, (old palace), was the official seat of the Signoria or governing body of Florence during the Renaissance.
It is a major tourist attraction now.

In the far distance can be seen the monumental Dome of Florence Cathedral, Sta. Maria dei Fiori, better known as the "Duomo".
The Renaissance architect Brunelleschi conceived of the dome, and built it without any "centering" or supporting structure inside.
It is a feat worth attempting to climb the interior stairs between the two layers of the dome. ...
but not for the weak of back or anyone with unsteady knees !

Many tourists are put off when they see construction scaffolding appended to some site they have anticipated visiting in Italy.
But I am not only intrigued by the often elaborate scaffolding, but it gladdens my heart to see it,
because it shows that Italy truly cares about its heritage and responsibility to preserve its of works of art and architecture for the future.
