For most people who have heard of Tunisia, it is a country in North Africa bordering the Mediterranean Sea that people visit often for its sun, sea and sand. This former French colony has surprisingly a lot more to offer than that. Although not as famous as Morocco, it is just as exotic and is crammed with diverse attractions ranging from historical Carthaganian sites, Byzantine & Roman ruins, great deserts, lush oases, salt flats, rugged landscapes, ancient fortified cities and mud-walled granaries, to French culture existing alongside centuries-old mosques and traditional Islamic communities. My husband and I had the good fortune of having a whole month from March 9th to April 10th of 2003 to explore almost every corner of the country. Tunisia was a fascinating country to explore and photograph and I amassed some 10,000 photographs during the course of our visit. I've organized them (don't worry - not all 10,00 of them) according to subject and I'll be adding more galleries over the weeks. So do check back here every now and again to see the new galleries.

The location of where I made the photographs is always noted on the bottom right corner of the image whenever possible. However, I do apologize for the less than optimum quality of the images. I made them with a Canon Powershot Pro90, which is considered a dinosaur in today's digital world, and were saved as medium quality jpeg files to stretch my 1G microdrive capacity everyday. More importantly, I hope you get a sense of the places I visited and that you enjoy experiencing them through my eyes.
