Sister's Oregon Quilt Show

Sisters, Oregon is a quaint little town in central Oregon in Deschutes County. Located a little over 100 miles East of Eugene and about 20 miles Wets of Bend. The drive from Eugene up the McKenzie Highway is quite spectacular. There are a couple of Oregon's famous covered bridges along the route. A must see is Shallie Falls.

Sisters was incorporated as a city in 1946 and in 1950 had a population of 723 people. From then until 2000 the population had dwindled to under 700. In 2000 the population grew to 959
and in 2016 the city had grown to 2,573.
Sisters stages 4 events throughout the summer months. The Sisters Rodeo in June. Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show on the second Saturday of July. The Sisters Glory Daze Car Show later in July, and the Sisters Folk Festival in Sept.

For the Quit show the entire Main street is closed down to automobile traffic and every building has home made quilts hanging every where. We spent about 4 hours wandering around and looking at these wonderful pieces of fabric art, and they are really works of art. You also need to wander the side streets to see everything. In our 4 hours we probably saw about 50% of the items on display.

Sisters has a delicious homemade ice-cream shop and fudge candy that is heavenly.

Sisters has one quilt shop "The Stichin' Post", I believe that this shop did more for the growth of Sister than anything else. People come from all over the U.S. and even from other countries to see this one day show. If you decide to attend need a room you had better reserve it now for next year and that may be even to late.

Even if you are not a fan of quilts then look at it as an outdoor art exhibit, because that is really what it is. Some of these quilts are pieces of art and are even priced accordingly.
