SVRA had their annual vintage sports car races at Portland
International Raceway in late July of 2018. I was covering
this race for Victory Lane Magazine. The main feature of
this event was the Masters Historic Formula 1 race and the
modern Trans Am series. My main interest was the vintage
races and the F-1 cars. The grand marshal of the event
was Geoff Brabham. Geoff drove and raced a formula ford
and a very quick Lotus Elan. The weather was hot and the
racing was good and clean. A very enjoyable weekend.
A side note:
I had been bugging my editor about shooting
the Porsche Rennsport Reunion for a couple of months.
Every time I mentioned it he asked if I could write.
My usual answer was no! he then mentioned that he had
50 photographers and very few writers. Now I ain't the
swiftest bird in the flock. BUT I took the hint and said
that I would try to write something about this race.
I guess it worked as they published my article and photos
in the Sept. issue and I got the coveted photo credential to
Monterey for The Porsche Reunion. On top of that they have
published my Porsche article and the CSRG race the following weekend.
Both articles are to be in the next issue of Victory Lane Magazine.
