Actually, he was scenting, though you do get a feel for the size of his teeth! He had smelled some urine from the other lions and was evaluating the smell. He did this for quite a while. I've seen my siamese cat do the same thing, though it isn't nearly as dramatic. It was a warm enough day that the lions were quite active. Last visit, they just huddled in a corner.
