Redtail on Deer Carcass

This is a young, immature redtail feeding. These young birds are inexperienced hunters and carcasses such as this may help get it through the winter. In some areas, farmers purposefully put roadkill deer in their fields to feed the eagles in their area. There is an eagle's nest not a mile from this carcass. I have no idea whether or not they have fed there. There had been a mature redtail hawk there on my first pass by, but it would not stay when the car stopped. There are more images in the Redtail gallery.
