Turkey Vulture on Carcass

As I was heading home after shooting all day, I can upon these large black birds in the road. Since they were back-lit it was hard to tell what they were. My binoculars showed them to be turkey vultures. About 6 were on the ground around the carcass. One stayed on the ground and one flew to the top of the nearby pole. I cocked the car diagonally in the road and threw my molar beanbag on the window. I grabbed my camera with the 300mm+1.7tele which was on the floor and took as many images as I could. I got lucky, no traffic yet. It was a country road. I decided to try and move closer, which I did, and was able to get some more shots. Suddenly, I saw a car coming so I had to quickly straighten up the car. That of course drove the vultures away. I drove past them and went down the road the ways and parked again. I opened the glass in the back of my suv. I crawled in the back and waited. Unfortunately, a stream of traffic came and the vultures dispursed. It was a really cool opportunity which might of grossed out lots of people. I've always seen them in the air, but rarely on the ground, so for me this was a real treat. Now if I hadn't had to shoot into the sun, it would have been perfect. It's a canine carcass, but I'm not sure if it's a coyote or fox.
