Arriving at the Bingen-Rüdesheim ferry docks.
On the right is the imposing Adlerturm, built around 1500 as a magazine with massive vaults for storing gunpowder (today it holds the money of a savings bank).
Up to the end of the 19th century the attached building was the prestigious guest-house Gasthouse zum Adler - which gave the tower its name.
Goethe once wrote of his enjoyment of the evening mood from the tower terrace in August 1814.
