Yes, Aeronca did make an engine. It is a 2 cylinder horizontal opposed which powered their early "bathtub" designed Aeronca C-2 and C-3 airplanes, and even some of the Aeronca "K" models. The original engines had single ignition and 26hp which eventually got up to 40hp and dual ignition. The only reason Aeronca built the 2 cylinder engine in the first place was because there were no reasonable (nor reliable) small light engines available. When Lycoming, Continental, Franklin and Monasco had a more reliable engine, Aeronca got out of the aircraft engine business.
