With the High Humidity added in, the Heat Index was a miserable 108 degrees Fahrenheit or 42.2 degrees Celsius - in the shade. The above pretty hibiscus sat in the full sun where the temperature was undoubtedly even higher. What caught my eye was that although it was a very fresh bloom, the edges almost immediately had started to curl from heat stress. Within a few hours, the entire flower was totally wilted and completely dead. Extreme heat seemed to speed up the aging progress. We've had quite a few 100-degree days this year.

Warm, friendly, big and strong, giant hibiscus 'Grandpa' blooms with huge 8-10" single flowers in rings of light orange, vivid orange and pink around a small red eye. 'Grandpa' is the child of giant orange mother 'Radiant' and tried and true red, yellow and pink father 'Flamboyant.'
