Another roadside “find” that I enjoyed. Crossing the street behind the Portland Art Museum, there is a quiet tea shop.
I later discovered that it was on The Oregonian's list of "Downtown Portland's 10 best coffee shops"; back when I visited in 2017 and still is today in 2022.
Professional reviewers described the Behind the Museum as "a serene, almost monastic coffee shop lined with Japanese art and ceramics" and wrote, "Behind the Museum Cafe is one of our favorite cafes in the city. With its high, airy ceilings and lengthy menu of Japanese teas, temple-style snacks and Extracto coffee drinks, it's the perfect place to have a relaxing cup of matcha or catch up on work."
Seiji Nanbu included the cafe in Eater Portland's 2020 list of "Where to Find Mesmerizing Matcha Treats in Portland and Beyond".

A Tripadvisor Review: “The first day we arrived in Downtown Portland, we walked around to get our bearings and came upon this little place. The tea was great. Great way to start a visit of Portland.” Like the people in the Trip Advisor review above, I discovered the café by chance. Now, that I know it’s there, I definitely would go back if I’m ever in that part of downtown Portland again.
