I watched the proceeding and captured the moment live on American TV.
This is the moment when Congress had counted enough ballots to officially confirm that Joe Biden won the November 2020 presidential election. The vote tally in favor of Biden, on the screen in this image, grew even larger as more votes continued to be counted. To quote Biden's predecessor #45 about his own margin of win back in the 2016 election, Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election by a "landslide".
However, this photo is the actual moment when Joe Biden had received enough votes & was formally declared the new President of the United States. That is the will of the majority of American citizens as represented by his winning a majority of BOTH the popular and the electoral college votes.
To show strength, Congress reconvened in the wee hours of January 7th to complete their unfinished business. On the afternoon of January 6th, that business had been brought to an abrupt halt by "homebred terrorism" & an insurrection. That insurrection, by the violent anarchist mob, threatened the very lives of Congressmen and Congresswomen, and even the standing Vice President.
However, Congress quickly was able to take back the Capitol Building. The act of their reconvening ASAP then told the world that democracy had survived an attack and is still alive in the USA.
On January 20, 2021 Joe Biden will take his place in history as the rightfully elected new President in our country that is "for the people and by the people".
This photo ends my gallery.
As for the future, it is clear that difficult times lay ahead in the immediate future. Democracy was challenged on January 6, 2021 when the US Capitol Building came under seize by a violent mob; egged on by a man who would see himself dictator. However when all was said & done, our democratic republic of the USA won the battle on January 6th. Hopefully, democracy will continue to prevail in future battles & America will remain the democratic republic of the United States of America.
As seen in this photo, the current Vice President of the United States of America, Mike Pence, had just read - in a special, joint session of Congress - the vote that officially confirmed the next legitimate President of the United States to be Joe Biden and the new Vice President to be Kamala Harris.
Democracy won over the anarchy of January 6th; a day which will be remembered in the history books as one of the saddest days in American history.
