We crossed a mountain road at Emory Pass and hitched our way down to the tiny town of Hillsboro. We thought we could pick up some groceries there but all that we found was a diner. After a filling lunch we bought a loaf of bread, jam, nuts and the diner's complete supply of granola bars. It made for an interesting change from dehydrated pasta and rice!
