This was taken in the bottom of a steep gorge. The sun had slipped below the rim to the west casting shadows along the stream but continued to paint the upper part of the eastern rim in sunlight. The reflection in the water wasn’t so much from the trees in the photo but from the glow of the sunlight bathed trees near the top of the gorge.
