The Stanley Cup Comes to Sea Isle City, NJ

On Thursday, July 17, 2014 the Stanley Cup made a stop in Sea Isle City, NJ. John Stevens, an assistant coach of the LA Kings,
the current Stanley Cup Champions, has a summer home in SIC. John Stevens was the Flyers Head Coach from 2006-2009.

We were out on a bike ride with our friends. We rode two short blocks from our condo and came upon a police barricade at Sea Isle's Fish Alley.
At first we did not know what was going on, but I noticed the trolley parked across the street and saw John Stevens carrying The Cup through the trolley out onto the street.
We were immediately pumped!

Stopping on Fish Alley was a planned photo opp for The Cup before it went down to the 57th Street Beach for a public display.

We were so lucky to have our very own personal close look at The Cup. In fact, Lenny Desiderio, the Mayor of SIC even got us, "the bikers",
into one of the official photos. It was a fast and furious experience with this iconic sports trophy. What fun!

The official public viewing of The Stanley Cup on July 17, 2014 was on the 57th Street Beach. We were just so lucky to have an unexpected encounter with The Cup during our bike ride.
We actually were planning on taking a short ride around town and ending up at 57th Street Beach, but luck had something better in mind for us.

Included below are some photos from the 57th Street Beach display of The Cup.
During our time with The Cup at Fish Alley I had a couple of brief conversations with Mayor Desiderio. He is such a personality and easy to talk to. He told me about his plan to have The Cup displayed inside a SIC Lifeboat.
He said, "Then everyone who has a picture of it will also be promoting Sea Isle".

There was a huge crowd waiting on the beach for the 11 AM arrival.
We did not wait in the line since we had our own unplanned but lucky personal experience with The Cup on Fish Alley.
As our friend said, "I don't feel like waiting in this line; how can we beat what we just experienced?"
