This is a page from the 2008 State Winners in this annual contest first started in the Nation at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge as a means to entice the youth of Alabama to learn more about wildlife and waterfowl. Now every State conducts this contest in March of each year. The winner's art work will be used to be a Duck Stamp side by side with the Adult Duck Stamp.
While all non-computer art forms can enter the competition, the black-and-White submissions and non-natural color pictures are not well received in the Washington D.C. judging, even though the pen-&-ink, charcoal, or pindot forms are outstanding with much detail and skill in drawing. Color in this competition is a final judging point and many a b&w receive second place and honorable mentions.
