Welcome to Ruby

Ruby

The old rusted truck greets you as you drive into the town of Ruby. The town is open to the public Thursday through Sunday. You meet with Sundog at his house to get a map and pay $12 cash (per person) and you're on your way to exploring the town all on your own.

It started as a mining camp in 1877 and was first known as Montana Camp. It produced more lead and zinc than any Arizona mine at its peak, with gold and silver also being mined. Having a peak population of about 1200, the mine closed in the 1950's.

I'd recommend a high clearance vehicle to go the final leg of the trip as the road is pretty rough in spots with possible standing water to drive through. We had a great day exploring all the buildings....definitely one of my very favorite ghost town visits.
