Bicycles should be pushed across the level crossing.
But I have never seen that happen.

Once in all the 11 years I lived in Japan, the police were at our local level crossings warning everyone who didn't walk their bicycles across telling them all the things that could go wrong by doing that. I only saw them their once and people continued to ride across the four track crossing.
