Revolutionaries

Bucharest, Romania

Last night I attended a concert in the Athenaeum in the central square in Bucharest. A glitz and glamour.
But just over 25 years ago, the square was the focus of the revolution that saw the end to the communist dictator Ceausescu.
There were tanks in the square, guns and shooting. Not so different to what is happening in Ukraine today. As the old newspaper picture below shows.
This monument has the names of all the people who died in the revolution. The building in the background is the old Communist Party offices, from where Ceausescu escaped by helicopter.
He was later captured and executed. Not many people talk about the revolution but the transition to a modern city is still going on.

And last year it was a walk around the harbour.

Fascinating narrative to go with the image, a very sobering one at that.

The number of names are sobering. The narrative brings it back to mind.

Your photograph is very effective and you've got a well written narrative today. It seems longer ago than 25 years. V
