A Beeching Walk

Longniddry

Dr Richard Beeching is the chap whose recommendations led to the drastic shrinking of railways in Britain, in the 1960s and 70s.
Around one third of the rail network was shut down, leading to entire rural lines being abandoned.
In recent years, some of these have been rehabilitated as walks and cycle paths, like this one.
You should really turn the volume up to fully enjoy this picture. My walk was accompanied end-to-end by bird song.
There were chiffchaffs, yellowhammers, chaffinch, bullfinch, tits (blue, great and long tailed) and blackcap to name just a few.
The only thing missing was some blue in the sky. Instead it was a continuous grey lid of cloud.

This is wonderful, rails to trails with lots of biking and walking space. Just need a birder's lens to catch a few of these. V

What a great use for the abandoned railways. Looks like it would be a very pleasant walk Lovely photo!

Love walking these lines - just such a shame that the cuts went so far. Of course if it was up to me we'd still have steam engines running on them! :-)

So perfect for the solitary traveler who delights in the rich unfettered growth of greenery punctuated by an archway of brick and the songs of warblers.

I like the leading lines of the walk as well as all that lush greenery.
