At last! A large park in the north where elevations are commonly 9 - 11,000 feet (peaks to 14,000). And one of its main inhabitants is the gelada monkey, many of which are visible here in the background. It doesn't seem to me that there is a consensus as to whether the gelada is closely or distantly related to baboons. It only lives in Ethiopia where over 200,000 may still survive. The majority of its diet consists of various parts of grass and it spends its nights on cliff faces for saftey. This specialized lifestyle and the fact that it is endemic to Ethiopia could make it vulnerable to population pressures in the future.
