Many Sundays during the summers in the late 60's, my family which consisted of my father Allan Orpin, mother Paddy, sister Anita and myself Stephen Orpin would head down to Big Wave Bay from our home at Quarry Bay, where my father worked at Taikoo dockyard. Used to surf on air beds, regarlary stung by jelly bugs, had some sharks who used to visit from time to time, the bay was quite idyllic. Tented chalets provided, and a great ice cream/cafe. Local Chinise children used to 'mind' the cars, for visitors! The drive alone was a feast for the eyes! Great memories!

My sister and I lived in Hong Kong at the same time. I lived in Kowloon and then Stanley and she lived in the New Territories. We had a day at the beach at Big Wave Bay with our children. When they called it Big Wave Bay, they certainly meant it. I remember my sister frantically running up and down the beach calling our children as we had lost sight of them and the waves were huge and terrifying.

We lived in Hong Kong from 1977 to the early 80's. We took our junk to Big Wave Bay with several friends.Within 12 hours a typhoon came in and we had to quickly leave...my daughter burried her bathing suit on this beach ! If anyone finds it....CALL !These are all such wonderful pictures. I fully intend to see our friends in them !
