Jen, I am always amazed by the grace and deep feelings of your image. Many components in this picture drives me to image an artist in her tearful despair. Well done, Jen.

I am struck most by the only point of meeting between your two halves, that candle vase at the back, at once lit with the colour of life and then black and white and symbolic of sorrow. Like the candle light went out and then everything became cold. K

something overwhelming and greater than hope and joy...felt to be large it crushes and chills the spirit....

Phil's interpretations always add dimension and meaning to all images and it's interesting that he reads this piece as a journey or a phase working from left to right in four frames. The love phase looks as if it is a still life from your actual life with the sorrow following as a shadow. I'd really like to know more about your intensions for this wonderfully expressive piece.

****It always gives me a thrill, Jen, to see you move in new directions, even if that direction may involve a mood of sadness. In this single image comprised of four phases, you begin with the glow of life at left, and move to an image fraught with pain and loss. The red dress symbolizes blood, the white hands, loss. The candle goes out, and what is left is a mask of sorrow, a shell of a person with a staring black blank eye, a person without a voice or purpose.Your title says it all -- what begins with hope and love often ends in despair and sorrow. And that, Jen, is the yin and yang of life. This is one of your most evocative images, Jen -- a series within a single frame that is a work of great feeling and honesty.

A piece of art! My compliments.

The soft and warm red represents LOVE , showing the body without the head - the b+w part symbolized SORROW - the rational side with the face and the thoughtful expression. Wonderful display of different emotional and rational dimensions in unity and perfect balance. A mature work Jen!

sensuous reds and sullen shadowy monchrome. A beautifully balanced composition.
