I looked out at people, cars, at everybody living their lives, going to places they want to be. I made a circle with my camera, just to tell the world out there that I am here. Even if sometimes I want to forget you, I can't help but be drawn into you."

This snowman, wearing huge red flowers as buttons, warmed my heart on a very cold afternoon. He will only be around until it warms up, while the Imperial Lion beside him has probably been guarding this palace for hundreds of years. But which give us more fun?

I see the umbrellas as their protection. In a big city like Shanghai, people carefully protect themselves by keeping their distance from others. In doing so, they create their own little world.

Over the years, the rulers of this ancient city have changed many many times. Man comes and goes, but the sun will always be there. No matter how powerful people or things are, their authority can never compare to the rule of nature.
His image challenged me to think hard and think differently. I went to the same spot that Phil used to make his image. I was fortunate to have a sun hanging in the cloudy sky directly over the Forbidden City, and the idea came to me immediately: even the greatest of cities must bow to the rule of the natural world.

I have a great love for this picture. And not just because it represents my photography well. I made it in my own home town of Shenyang, a snowy city in Northeast China. While snow often brings misery, it can be beautiful. And that is what I try to say here, by bringing color and life to Shenyang's snowy streets.

I made this during my first visit to Shanghai. It was my first expression of this city. The golden color represents Shanghai's future. The cars sweeping on to one of its freeways symbolize the rapid growth of one of the most dynamic cities in the world.
