from "The Grace of Intimacy"

This is my all time favorite image. It is the portrait of the life of a nun--a strong hand, simple possessions, and Jesus. I had asked permission to photograph the sisters at the Fatima Convent of The Daughters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, and the time I had to shoot amounted to two hours total. But I had weeks to prepare myself for what I wanted to reveal, and when I finally was there taking photographs, what came to me was not shutter speed and ISO and the various buttons on my camera.

What flowed through me was the sense of the holy romance present in the sisters' lives. A romance I did, however briefly, felt a part.
