The Temple Of Lost Love, 911 Commemoration

the ToLL turned ten recently so in remembering the art of the old-world there was a gathering on 09.11.02 under the bridge where one could celebrate their art or remember the lost(or both).
props go out to the folks who started the ToLL and have spent much time nurturing the gardens. these people include: frank green, the joan of art, beth, andrew, pj, jay, amy and others that i know i'm missing. thanks to the many others have commited their time to the temple as well.

i rode my bike down to the ToLL after the t_art walk/666 pack show at pats friday night and as of 1 am saturday there are are no furniture installations of anymore. so 50% of the subjects here no longer exists, shame. i am glad i spent an entire day here recording the creativity..

post-note: besides from stealing all the sculptures, the city sent down a crew to destroy the art by painting everything battleship grey.

I'm a graffiti artist here in Madison,WI. I'm cool with some crews here in Madison-ipc/tci/rfa, Minneapolis as well as ctw/kfa in Milwaukee. I was just wondering if you were gonna stretch the midwest scene to around here at all. I could hit you with some good flicks if you're interested. Let me know.

I am working on a book about Midwest graffiti and neighboring cities. Cities I am profiling are Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Chicago, Pittsburg, St. Louis, Buffalo, Ny., Rochester, NY. hi.....it is so cool that i found this site about the temple. My love and interest for graffiti began here in December of 2002. I have heard lots of different stories from people about what they think goes on down there, now i know the truth. I have been working on a book about Cleveland Graffiti and will be giving 'the temple' a chapter of its own, especially since it started there for me. I would love to have some actual interviews from anyone that has taken part of the actual rituals there. Email me........ larry

what happened to the temple? i went down there yesterday, the 27 if september and everything is gone, and boughed.!?!!?!?!?!!?!?!?!!?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!? I hope this is an intended fresh start and not the city.

wow,its' great to see the temple revived again!I hope the ceremonys continue.As far as I know the temple is 20 years old the original ceremonies happend in the early 80'sMy friend P.J turnd me on to it and we started going down there once a week or so in the summer of 98. there was a home made wooden ladder hidden there that we used to reach the upper parts of the braces we where armed with paint construction glue mirror glass and whatever looked good to stick up.we also cleand the paint off the origanl staind glass with starting fluid.ISTARTED THROWING weights tied to wiers and rope over the conduits then pulling objects up. for a while there where banners like the ones at car lots hanging across the back brace,(the one with the green background kali wich has yet to be finished). alot of other people where going down there and adding things but we where all strangers to eachother and never met.there was a full steel flower about 4 feet high in a cement footing that lasted about a year or so.Two years ago P.J. told me the temple had been extensivly damaged,the glass broken and alot of the art sprayed over with local skin head logos.your pics show that its been redone once again and it looks great!Mabey the cops did go back to destroy the installations or mabey just bored kids.I hope to here about up coming events,in case I can make it to Clevo for another revival there! thanx T.R.S.

Hey Lou, Thanks for posting all the pics. I am glad you were able to document the day's events as well. I was just showing my youngest daughter Jessica the photos and she also got a kick out of seeing them...When I took the children down later that evening it was kinda hard to see the art, so these are really special indeed. Did the art destroyes undo the landscape job Beth did as well? Hmmm let me know. regards, Joan of Art
