The R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, Lansing, Michigan

Revisited April 25, 2008 to view the cars on loan from General Motors for their 100th Anniversary celebration.

"Before there was Chevrolet, Ford or Dodge, there was Oldsmobile". In 1897, at the Olds Gasoline Engine Works, the board of directors commissioned Ransom E. Olds "To build one carriage in as nearly a perfect manner as possible". With that direction, R.E. Olds started America's first and oldest name in mass produced automobiles.

I am with a small Fire Department, we have a 1918 Reo Oldsmobile Fire Engine. We are looking for some place (Museum, etc.) to store the truck as opposed to a storage facility. We would like to have the truck visible where it can be appreciated and not just put away in storage and only seen during parades and such. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. We would still like to be able to use the truck for our parages. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I have a wooden Curved Dash Oldsmobile wheel. It is staggered spoke and still has the original white rubber tire on it. Do you know of anyone that might buy it ? It is perfect shape, I can send pictures if interested. On the back of the wheel I can read Lancing Mich. but have not cleaned it to read what else it says. It has been inside for over 90 years.

I visited in 2005 and all I can say is WoW! Do you still have the last Oldsmobile there? I really enjoyed looking at the Engine's the 2.3l and how all the people signed it. really cool museum!

I have cases (maybe 20) of Olds sales literature from '81, 82. I would be willing to donate it to the museum if the museum would be willing to pay for the shipping. I am not an Olds afficiando, but collected it back then, thinking that it might appreciate in value. Let me know if you are interested....

Just a very small sample of what is at the museum on any given day. Over 100 years of Oldsmobiles are included in the museum as well as steam engines, bicycles, lawn mowers, vintage clothing, an airplane, pictures, a piano from R.E.'s house, a collection of wheels from Motor Wheel, and many, many, many other items relating to Lansing and it's transportation history. Make a point to come to visit the REOTM and you ought to go around at least twice to really get a grasp on everything you'll see. There are a some other museums and places of interest in that same general area so plan a day or two and you will see all sorts of neat stuff! Have a great time!
