Iran is an extremely beautiful country in which to visit, make friends, and photograph.

About the picture I hear the people's talk and the children's laugh, I see the cleaness of the blue sky, I see in the iranian people's eyes the much goodness. I see a world like that where there are true people yet. Really wonderful pictures! I hope very soon I may see this wonderful country!

Dear Damon, Wow. Great pictures & real faces. I just loved them all. I am impressed by how did you travel to that many places in different parts of Iran. Some places I even don't know where they are. I was also hoping to see some pictures from cities, like Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Rasht & so on. Or maybe you can post a short description that most pictures are taken form villages and towns =) People already think Iran is a 3d world 7 non civilized... you know what I am trying to say Thank you again and you are more than welcome to travel there ...

Good pictures, did you manage to visit Atish gah or monar jomjom (shaking tower) near Esfahan)? or the hammam in jehel soton over 600 years old. The pictures you have taken from the church are great this church is one of the oldest church in middle east over 450 year old and has lots of histories going back to Quajar period 270 years ago (Fatali Shah) and there was`an incident in Armanian area when two of the local man worked in king house as cleaners & rubed some gold from the King (same period as Nepolian 1 "king of France") and the king Fatali Shah ordered to kill and burn all houses in the area and the Priminister at the time "Mohammad Hosaine Khan Sadr Azam Esfahani" stoped the king and for that kindness and appriciation his picture now hunged inside the galories in the main Hall as an appriciation to his kindness!! Next time you are visting Iran try to visit Abaneyeh near city of Esfahan and you would enjoy the surrounding and this would also give you different views about Iran. Visit larger cities too Shiraz, Tabriz, Yazed. Good luck and take care

Dear Damon Thanks to clarify the name of the gallery "People and Places in Iran." I think your answer on this part could be the answer for Reza Samavati as well. There is no doubt that your photos and the slideshow are excellent and great.:) I think Haleh may mean that you may make a sad and poor observation of Iran in general in your gallery not the sad and poor people that you have taken your photos. As an Iranian, who have lived and grew up in Iran and then moved to west for continuing my education, I have met many educated people who have a very poor and sad observation of Iran. They imagine Iran as a desert country which is not develpoed. Even some of them surprised when I told them that we have universities in Iran. So, I said I can realize what Haleh means. Apart of that, I know you are a photographer and an artist. Also everyone has different taste and talent. Perhaps, choosing another name for this gallery or the slideshowcould prevent these misunderstanding, perhaps not. I hope you wouldn't be offended by my comment. Have a great time and take care.:)

Manizheh, Haleh: if you look at the comments found in the hundreds of thousands of galleries found pbase.com, you will find a mixture of messages. Some will be in praise of the artistic vision of the photographer. Others will be messages of condemnation. Photographers make images, and anyone is free to react to them in any way the want. If you spend enough time here, you will find all manner of comments. Some people like to be kind and affectionate, and others like to provoke and insult. As a photographer, I'm not surprised when people condemn me or my photography; nor am I surprised when they condemn people in the images. This is typically a reflection of the person making the comment more than it is a reflection on the images they are commenting on. Having said all this, I do feel compelled to correct basic misunderstandings. "People and Places in Iran" does not mean "A representative sample of all the people and places in the highly diverse country of Iran". It also does not mean that the images conform to some kind of socio-economic ideology that promotes shopping malls and skyscrapers as being the "real" Iran. I am not in the business of propaganda. I am a photographer. I have an artistic vision and this is where it comes to life. There are life-stories behind all of these images. Some Iranians and foreigners might find it difficult to understand, but there are a significant number of Iranians who choose to live in tents because they want to. It is their culture and they want to preserve it. They are not sad and they are not full of poverty. They come from generations of nomadic sheep herders. And they are 100% Iranian, and proud of it.

Haleh: the photography in this gallery concerns art and not propaganda. Your reaction is doubly unfortunate, because I very much enjoyed my time with these people you decry as poor and sad. It appears you know little of their life, or else you would not write such a comment.

How did you dare to ignore the well developed views and look only at some provinces and name it as my mother alnd. My mother land in which I am living not to admire the foreign's view from thousands of kilometers away. It is not Iran. If you came to Iran and closed your eyes to the reality then we can not change your mission by sending some other pictures, but you can not change our Iran by these full of sad and poverty pics.

It is natural to feel nostalgic when viewing these photo. I felt it in the first few seconds of watching the slide show and then realized how grave the situation is when I as a veiwer would not want to swap places with those being photographed. Is this not a sad state when many of the viewers feel that they want to be there but can't! In fact, it is not that they "can't" but rather "won't" because they choose to live here and not there. The few smiles in these photos are on the faces of those not yet confronting the challenges of life in Iran - kids. Thanks for capturing the reality of Iran, a nation that has for far too long rested on its pillow of history, culture and religion and continues to pacify its misery by grandiose proclamations. Soon there will be no oil to export and its GDP per capita will drop to levels that would rank it amongst the poorest nations in the world. Given that in the hay days of $105 per barrel oil income, few if any of us expats would consider moving to Iran, how likely is it that we want to even see photos of the poverty and social upheavals when there is no oil to export? The music to the same slide show would indeed have to be changed to a more somber melody. With much sadness....

Sad because I am not there to enjoy being part of that culture and happy because my country Iran has so much to offer. I even did not know about the beautiful Armenian Orthodox Church in Esfehan.

Well done Damon. The slide show is just mesmerizing, especially with that song on the background. Frankly, it brought tears to my eyes, and now I feel a hole in my heart. The kind and innocent faces of those hard working fellows, the joyful kids, sceneries, the historical architecture, ... they look so real and pure, the kind of Iran I'd like to see. Great job. Thank you. We love our country, the way it is; The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. For a change, it was nice to see the real people of Iran. Of course love to see all those beautiful sceneries, high-rises and high class malls, passengers and shoppers, but what is more beautiful than these beautiful, innocent smiles, the sunburned faces and hard working hands.

They are very nice pictures. They capture a great deal of wisdom and beauty in Iran's country and rural people. Photographic tours of Iran should attempt to show as many angles of Iran as possible. Here, you have captured the beauty of the countryside in one area of Iran. I recommend that on your next trip, that you travel widely and obtain photographs showing the rich cultural and ethnic diversity inside Iran.

I just love it, I have spent time with thse people in the villages, they are so nice and friendly and happy, i go very often to Iran, where i find myself feel more happy and confortable, they do not have the comfort as we have here, but they have the comfort in their sprit. Amazing photos of the real Iranians - favourite is the middle-aged man looking to his right with a most mischievous smile. It brings great humanity seeing the range of emotions portrayed from wariness, to warmth, to mischievous smiles. The colours and textures are tremendous. You've really caught a gentleness in their images. Others are right - this isn't a political forum, but it is nice to get 'behind the scenes' and propaganda that CNN and other news people out there to see the real people of Iran. Beautiful photos.
